Do you want homeschooling to work from you?

I was checking my phone after my shift at the hospital yesterday and saw over 50 messages in the mum's group for my children's class. Oh, dear! It occurred to me that there was an announcement by the Prime minister earlier in the night. I needed to know what the news was. Well, I found out that we were going into lockdown and the schools were going to be shut. This would be another period of homeschooling.

I know what it is like to work from home and have children at home being homeschooled. There is a tendency to be distracted and sometimes there is a possibility to be stressed. We are faced with uncertainty. We are spending long periods with our loved ones or housemates and it can be quite uncomfortable sometimes. However, it does not have to be that way.

Taking care of each aspect of our being daily

We sometimes feel disconnected from our true selves as we progress through life.

This can make us feel dissatisfied, detached, or empty. It is one of the main reasons why people get depressed.

As human beings, we have several aspects of our beings: spirit, soul, mind, and body. To move in alignment involves connecting all aspects of our being.

There are a simple few activities that you can do daily to ensure that connection:

 

  1. Mindfulness

This practice calms the mind and body. It helps you develop intentionally in the midst of serenity.

2. Laughter

This might appear strange but it is a practice that connects your spirit, soul, mind, and body to connect in an instant. You can use watching comedy, sharing jokes or even start spontaneously.

3. Music

Music is said to be food for the soul. It, however, has been found to elevate the spirit and when combined with dance is great for the body and the mind.

Feeling isolated?

Are you by yourself and feeling isolated?

Some have to stay away from others due to regional or national lockdown.

Some have to because of some condition that makes them vulnerable.

Whatever the case, there are a few things that you can do that will help you NOT to feel isolated while you stay away from others.

  

  1. Deep breathing

Take a few mins several times a day to take deep breaths. While sitting or standing upright, take a deep breath for a count of 4, hold for a count of 4 and breathe out for the count of 4.

  1. Gratitude

Take a few moments to say thank you for yourself, your friends and family, things that you experience daily, and anything else you would like to express thanks for.

 

  1. Exercise

Remember that when you move your body, your mind gets to work, the blood would more efficiently take oxygen and nourishment to your vital organs.

What do you do when time flies by?

Oh no! Half of the month is gone and I have not achieved much.

This is a constant complaint that I hear from people including myself. Sometimes, it appears that things are moving too fast. Our immediate response is to speed up, get worried and feel overwhelmed.

I felt exactly that way last week as I had some projects with the deadlines approaching. However, I got a reminder lesson from my son about what to do when time seems to fly by.

My son had a school task set at the start of the week. It was such that the students were meant to log into the site to complete some calculations and the person on the top of the leader board got a price. Being naturally competitive in nature, my son worked hard at it and I encouraged and supported him on the way. When he got to the second place on the leaderboard, he wanted to stay up late into the night to push through to first place. Have you felt isolated by the way people relate to you when you have expressed anxiety or depression?

For many years, mental health has been a taboo. Thankfully, we are becoming more accepting of mental health challenges and empathic towards those who have them. 

The daily challenges that we encounter contribute to the pressures on our health. The good thing however is that it is within our ability to improve our mental well-being with easily implemented tips as listed below.

To be aware rather than be overwhelmed is a vital key. This is done by practicing mindfulness. Improving your wellbeing during the last quarter

There are times when we feel time is racing and this year has not been an exception.

2020 has been a year of intrigue, novelty, uncertainty and for some loss.

However, the fact that you are reading this, is proof that you made it to the last quarter. Yipppeee!!

The last quarter of any year is usually filled with festivities and times when families come together. However, with social distancing and other measures put in place because of the pandemic, there is a risk that we might lose out on many traditions. It is also a time when the cold weather in most countries occur.

Here are a few things that we can do to take control of the last quarter.

It is cold and you really don't want to go outside. Why no do a mini dance-off with family indoors. It will be fun and you will keep active.

It is my anniversary!

Today is such a special day and I would like to share it with you. Its meaning has evolved over the years. I have always remembered it as my father's birthday but the meaning changed to the day I realised that I had married the wrong person, to the day my marriage ended and now the birth of a mission that helps many around the world.  

So I woke up this morning full of gratitude. I sang, danced and got ready to attend the thanksgiving mass that had been booked for me. 

So after reading from scripture, we had a period of reflection. As I sat in church with my face mask on (in view of the current situation with covid), the event of my day of anguish, pain and confusion played before my eyes. Guess what, my heart was full of joy, gratitude and praise for that event. For the very first time, I said, ' Though it was painful, I would not have it any other way.'
